Here are some basic tips for international travel that will make the
experience much more relaxing. First and most obviously you will
need a passport for all those traveling. Then you should check out
what requirements the country you are traveling to has for entry.
Some locations may require vaccinations, return trip pre-booked,
exit taxes/ fees, or other requirements. A good site for this is the
US Dept of State site. This site has loads of useful information on
each country and things to consider individually.

While in flight you should make sure to bring a black or blue ink
pen. Most flights will pass out Customs and Immigration forms that
need to be filled out before landing in the destination country and
this holds true of your return flight coming back to the US. Most of
the information required is on your passport but, make sure you
also have the address of where you will be staying at as well.

Know some of the language or at least some key phrases. "I only
speak a little bit of your language." "I need a taxi/ shuttle." Where
can I get some good food?" "Is my flight delayed?" If you carry a
card around with some basic translations you will have a better
time. A small pocket dictionary isn't a bad idea either.
Yahoo
Babel Fish
is a good site for rough translations of phrases and
words to make yourself a few quick reference note cards.

Be aware of local customs and keep an open mind when traveling
abroad. Part of the fun and adventure is that you are traveling to a
place foreign to what you are used to on a daily basis. Enjoy the
differences.
