Nobody wants to pay more than they have to when flying. In this travel tip we are going to show you how to avoid those third party booking sites and get a genuinely good deal on flights. Booking with the airline on which you are flying is a key element to saving money and avoiding a lot of headaches. To see more on this, check out our other travel tip: Book with an Airline. Airlines reserve the best fares for those who book directly with them, these fares tend to disappear quickly so planning is important when looking for a good deal on airfare. Plan as far ahead as you can, most airlines will book up to a year in advance. The longer you wait the more expensive the ticket is going to be. Try seeing what a fare for a new ticket is on the day of travel, it can be kind of outrageous. It stands to reason that lower fares will be scooped up before the higher ones. Airfares fluctuate even within the time span of a day they can change up to three times. When you purchase a ticket make sure and check the fare again at the end of the day. Some airlines have programs in place that will refund you the difference on a ticket if the fare changes before the end of the day. Be flexible about when and where you can fly. Another good way to find a great deal on your flight is trying different times of the year, days of the week, and even times of day. These can all be factors in finding a lower price. The early morning flight may have seats with lower fares than the more convenient afternoon counterpart. Try flying in or out of nearby airports. At times changing a starting or stopping point with a nearby option such as LGA for JFK or EWR can reduce the cost of your ticket. Saturday is usually a great day to research airfares, many airlines sneak in sales on Friday night. Compare the different airlines' fares to find the best price. It is pretty common place to shop online for airfare but what you might not know is that airlines's websites are looking at what other sites and fares you've been looking at, giving them an advantage over you. A simple solution is to clear out your browsing history and delete your cookies before visiting a new airlines webpage. MORE . . . |
