Cancelled flights are never a joy for anyone. You don't like them because you get delayed in getting in where you are going, and airlines don't like them either. They can cause a domino effect and cause delays or cancellations throughout their system. Your flight from Atlanta to Huntsville is cancelled and then the passengers waiting in Huntsville now are stuck because the flight was supposed to continue on to Cincinnati. Before long they are trying to reroute planes and crews and things get messy quickly. So, no one wants the flight to cancel but, it does. Before you left for the airport, you should've checked out what other routes and flights could be alternatives for just such an instance. You also should have brought the airline's reservation number. Try to listen closely for the details as to why the flight was cancelled and get on the phone with reservations. There will be a mad rush to the counter and or gates to be rebooked and you should try to get there towards the front of that line as well. The passengers towards the front of the line and elite members will get the best options. These lines are slow moving so be patient and stay on the line with the airline. It is possible they will get you set up before you see an agent. If the cancellation is due to weather or ATC (Air Traffic Control), don't expect much in the way of accommodations or compensation. If the delay comes from maintenance, a mechanical issue, or a crew related issue the airline agents are able to hand out hotel and food vouchers as well as other compensation depending on the circumstance. They may even be willing to send you through on another airline. Delays from cancelled flights can last hours, or during holiday seasons, days. Just because there is another flight leaving in an hour don't expect to be on it. The airlines can only put you on a flight if there are seats available. Getting frustrated over the situation is a natural reaction but does not help you. Try and keep a level head and positive demeanor, these attributes can help you out far more. Know what you are going to do before the situation arises and you are far more likely to come out with a positive outcome. Travel Safe, Travel Smart . . . Get Somewhere! |
